Chez Zee

26 Jun

Billy and I had a wonderful anniversary last night!  He did all the planning and surprised me with an evening out.  He did a little research on romantic restaurants in Austin and came across this place, Chez Zee.

He made a reservation for a private table so we were tucked in the back of this quaint little place.  The food was phenomenal.  And just as I thought I was completely stuffed, they brought out this cake that Billy requested.  Don’t worry, I found room to eat that.

I got a beautiful diamond necklace which I’m wearing in the picture below and the evening ended with the pianist playing our first dance song, Maybe I’m Amazed by Paul McCartney.

All in all, a perfect evening.

Happy Anniversary B!

Happy Anniversary Billy!

Can you believe it’s already been a year?

And what a CRAZY year it has been.

Here’s to many more!

(Just hopefully not as crazy, please!)

Pack ’em up

6 Jun

And move ’em out!  It’s time to move to a brand new house!  err… apartment.

Every time I move, I get this song stuck in my head.  It is from my most favorite Strawberry Shortcake episode ever when I was little.  It’s the best.

We’re moving to New Braunfels!

Billy got an awesome new job in Austin!   He’s just straight crushing it at BigCommerce and is absolutely loving it.

Since the commute for Billy from San Antonio to Austin is pretty long every day, we are moving to middle ground so I can go south to San Antonio and he can go north to Austin.

New Braunfels is a really cute, super country town and holds the little historic village of Gruene.  You may remember a previous post where I talk about tubing and Gruene Hall.  Our new apartment will be less than a mile from Gruene so we will be spending most of our time in town and floating down the river!

The best part about our new apartment is that it has an extra bedroom… so bring on the visitors!

Doesn’t that look like fun?  And you will have your option of hanging out in Austin or San Antonio, since we will be in the middle of the two!

We’ll be ready for you in July!

Cutting it all off

17 May

For Miss Addison!

There is a fundraiser taking place on Monday, May 21st for Miss A.  The Joliet school district (where her dad, Steve works) is selling t-shirts and on Monday, will have a hair cutting ceremony at Traditions in Joliet.  Since I live in Texas and won’t be able to make it back to the Chicago area on Monday, I decided to participate from afar.

So I ordered my cute t-shirt and booked an appointment.

Here’s a before picture…

And here’s an after!

And this lovely bag will be sent to Pantene Beautiful Lengths and will be turned into a wig and given to a woman with cancer through the American Cancer Society FOR FREE.

Pretty sweet.

Now I have to adjust to my new ‘do.  I used FAR too much shampoo this morning.  And I felt clumsy blow drying and straightening my hair, there was so little to work with!  Look at my baby pony!

But I’ll adjust quickly.  It’s the least I can do for one of my favorite little girls.

Good luck to Addison as she starts Cycle 2 of chemo today!  xoxo

Gorilla Challenge

14 May

On Saturday, Billy and I participated in the San Antonio Gorilla Challenge.  What is the Gorilla Challenge?  “We’re an Amazing Race/Fear Factor style event, quickly becoming the largest outdoor pursuit experience in the nation sending hundreds of Gorillas around their city looking for clues with excitement for a chance to win awesome prizes.”

And Billy and I took 2nd place!

I’m not going to lie, it was HARD for me.  We are guessing we ran probably around 4.5 – 5 miles total.  I’m not a runner so it was pretty difficult but we still had a really great time figuring out the clues and doing the challenges.

My favorite challenge was squirting vinegar into Billy’s mouth and he had to spit it into a bottle up to a certain line.  That was probably his least favorite.  But he is already talking about doing the one in Austin in the fall.

I guess that means I better keep running!

Sweet tooth

7 May

Billy and I spent our Sunday night giving in to our sweet tooth.  We watched the Ben & Jerry’s documentary on Netflix and indulged in some Blue Bell ice cream.  Yes, it seems as though we should have been eating Ben & Jerry’s, but to be honest, Blue Bell just MIGHT be more delicious than Ben & Jerry’s and it’s definitely way, way cheaper.

Did you know that Ben from Ben & Jerry’s can’t smell most things?  So when Jerry would make the ice cream with the recommended amount of flavoring, Ben couldn’t taste it.  So he kept adding flavor until Ben could taste it.  And that is why their flavors are so intense.  Who knew?!

To coninue the “sweet tooth” theme, here’s a recipe I came across on Pinterest to satisfy your cake cravings!

5 Minute Mug Cake (yes, it only takes 5 minutes!)

– one egg

– 4 tbsp flour

– 4 tbsp sugar (I used 2, 4 seemed like a lot)

– 3 tbsp milk

– 3 tbsp oil

– 2 tbsp cocoa (I didn’t have this, but I did have hot cocoa mix so i used that instead!)

– This wasn’t in the original recipe, but I added some chocolate chips for fun

Mix the flour, sugar and cocoa first, then add the egg, then add the liquids.  Zap it in the microwave for 3 minutes.  Top off with your fav ice cream and devour.

Obviously this isn’t going to be EXACTLY like your typical chocolate cake, its not quite as fluffy, but for something that easy that will satisfy my cake craving is good enough for me!

20 Apr

Thank goodness it’s Friday.  That means that Addison is DONE with her first day of treatment.  I think the first one is always the hardest.  Not that any of the other times will be easier, but let’s just say it’s good to have one day down.

Which reminds me, thank you for all who have been thinking of her and praying for her.  She really appreciates it and even sends a “thank you” picture!

Such a sweet girl!

Billy and I are jetting back to Chicago early tomorrow morning.  I can’t wait to be back and hopefully get to give Miss Addison a big hug and a little present I got for her.  Since we don’t know how she is going to react to the chemo, we aren’t sure if we will be able to actually see her.  Fingers crossed.

On another note, here is an amazing picture to look at to get you through Friday.

Billy and I went here a few weeks ago, it’s called Hamilton Pool.  It’s AMAZING and is only about 30 minutes outside of Austin.  You have to walk down this rocky path about a quarter mile to get there, and you feel like you are in the middle of Ferngully.  Super lush.

Then you cross this little bridge and it opens up to the pool area with a waterfall.  Apparently, this natural pool was created when an underground river collapsed.  You can swim, catch some rays and just enjoy this little beaut.  Billy’s favorite part, of course, was standing directly under the waterfall.

Happy Friday!
